Proto Grotesk in use: Canvas Creative

A website of a studio that can arrange digital design for literally anything

March 28, 2024

A Utah-based design, digital marketing & development studio Canvas works with any kind of businesses — for example, the most recent projects in their portfolio are an online men’s suit store, a fitness app, and an electric motorcycle brand strategy. The FWA-awarded website is set in Proto Grotesk (headings and subheadings) and Untitled Sans by Klim Type Foundry (body text.)

Proto Grotesk developed at Production Type foundry draws on a German sans serif created in the late 19th century — back when the eccentric visual language was a value. It has a sophisticated pedigree: Proto Grotesk inherits both Egyptian and Modernist features, combining rounded and sharp shapes, while some of its characters might well be taken for slab serifs.
