About the designer

Graphic and type designer, co-founder of type.today store. Graduate of the Moscow State University of Printing Arts (Department of Arts and Technical Design of Printed Materials). Yury worked as a designer and art director for publishers and design studios. From 2004 to 2012, he was art director with Bolshoy Gorod (Big City) magazine. In 2004, he and lya Ruderman, Dmitry Yakovlev, and Daria Yarzhambek launched the DailyType webpage. Later in 2014, Yury and Ilya Ruderman founded CSTM Fonts type design studio which released Pilar, Big City Grotesque, Kazimir, Navigo, Normalidad, RIA Typeface, Lurk, Loos, Maregraph typefaces and CSTM Xprmntl series, as well as Cyrillic versions of Druk, Graphik, Spectral, Stratos and Apoc. The works by Ostromentsky and CSTM Fonts were awarded by European Design Award, Granshan and Modern Cyrillic Competition.

New font: CSTM Emoji

A new font — the CSTM Emoji character font is a set of emoticons drawn up by the artist Alexei Ostromentsky. The collection comprises illustrations conveying a range of emotions via facial expressions, gestures, and assorted objects. The symbols are arranged in the standard Unicode emoji cells and are duplicated in the cells for the English alphabet and numbers.

New fonts: RIA Typeface

RIA Typeface is a font family created especially for the RIA Novosti news agency. Each face of this font has been created for a particular function, size, and usage context. Ilya Ruderman the agency’s Art Director from 2011-2014, recounts the story of this font’s creation and its special features.

New typeface: Stratos

A family that rethinks concepts of weight and width, spanning multiple hierarchies within a single style.

Cyrillic fonts of 2016

Each year that goes by sees yet more new fonts coming out onto the market. And the Cyrillic market is growing steadily too. Together with our colleagues from the typejournal.ru, we have compiled the fullest list of new typefaces with Cyrillic. Later we arranged them into categories, purely based on our own subjective preferences and notions of beauty.

New Typeface: CSTM Xprmntl 01

The CSTM Xprmntl 01 typeface inaugurates type.today’s new series of ”fast fonts”.

New typeface: Druk

Druk is a study in extremes, featuring the narrowest, widest, and heaviest typefaces in the Commercial Type library to date. Starting from Medium and going up to Super, Druk is uncompromisingly bold.
